Hiking Tour of Meteora (Morning)

The hiking tour of Meteora is one of the best ways to enjoy this unique geological phenomenon and to learn the rich history of an UNESCO World Heritage Site. By joining this morning hike you will walk through hidden trails that only locals know. Let us take you on a journey back in time following the footsteps of the first monks who arrived here more than 15 centuries ago. Experience nature at its best and enjoy great views other visitors will never see! Listen to the stories and the legends behind each place you pass along the trail and the thousand years of history will become alive through the exciting narrative of our local guides. Visit the monasteries of Ypapanti (Mondays to Fridays only), Great Meteoron or Varlaam (every Tuesday). This tour requires a reasonable physical and mental health.

Difficulty level: Easy Duration: 4-5 hours (approx.) Start time: 08:30, Pick-up from your Hotel in Kalabaka or Kastraki

Hiking Meteora's Caves (Afternoon)

Our Hiking Meteora's Caves hikes up the rock of Aghio Pnevma (Holy Spirit), which is located in the middle of the valley that extends from the village of Kastraki towards the vast rock complex of Meteora. This 3 hrs hike will guide you on the trails near the village of Kastraki. On top, a chapel made inside a cave and dedicated to Holy Spirit was erected by the very first hermit of Meteora. It's the rock where all began in terms of Meteora monasticism more than a thousand years ago. Walk in the footsteps of those first hermit-monks of Meteora; see the caves where those faithful people chose to live centuries ago. The hike starts from the village of Kastraki, on the foothills of Aghio Pnevma rock, to lead you some 250 meters higher above the village. Filled with the most awesome views of the surrounding area you will then reach the prison cave of the monks, located on the northern side of Aghio Pnevma. The hike will then pass below the cave of St. George and it will finish at the central square of the Kastraki village.

Duration: 3 hours (approx.) Departure point: Start time 16:00, Pick-up from your Hotel in Kalabaka or Kastraki

Day 3,Hiking and Scramble Tour of Great Saint (Aghia)

This is the highest of all the Meteora rocks, with a height of 630 m (1890 ft). A path leading up to the tower of Aghia (which means “Great Saint”) starts from the old quarters of the village Kastraki. This amazing hiking path is a challenge of great adventure that appeals mostly to active individuals with good fitness levels. Because of its high difficulty, it is not recommended without a guide, unless you are an experienced climber. On the way to the top one passes by the bizarre-looking rock of Adrachti, then proceeds to walk on the rock-carved steps and encounters the naturally-formed cisterns before reaching the spot in which a white cross has been placed. The view from the peak of this rock is exceptional! This tour requires a physical and mental health

Great Tour

We did a sunset tour and a private 4 hour morning tour. George was very informative and patient. Definitely worth your time to take a tour and learn about the history of the area and the monastery.
