Tour Details

The hike begins from the foothills of Doupiani rock, beneath the old ruins of Pantokrator monastery. Then crosses through the immense rock formations to reach the northern side of Meteora. Over that side, you’ll discover the hidden monastery of Ypapanti and the ruins of St. Dimitrios. Listen to the stories and the legends behind each place you pass along the trail and the thousand years of history will become alive through the exciting narrative of our local mountain guides. You will enter the hidden monastery of Ypapanti (only Monday to Friday), which opened for hikers. Afterward, you will visit the monasteries of Great Meteoron or Varlaam and then you’ll walk down the old footpath monks used for centuries before the construction of roads for the last part of this marvelous hike.

This tour requires a reasonable physical and mental health on behalf of all participants!

FAQ

I am staying at an AirBNB. Where can I get picked up from?

We cannot pick up clients from AirBNBs for our tours. If you are staying in Kalampaka then you can come by our offices to start the tour. If you are staying in Kastraki then you can meet us at our offices there.

I am staying at Trikala. Do you offer pick up from there?

Trikala is a city about 21km away from Kalampaka. Because of that, we do not offer pick up from there. You can catch the local bus to Kalampaka, which runs regularly and come by our offices here to start the tour.

Which monasteries do we visit inside on our tours?

First of all, keep in mind that, since every monastery closes on some days of the week, we do not visit the same monasteries every day. The monasteries we usually visit though are the following: Meteora Half-day Tour: Great Meteoron, Varlamm and Rousssanou Meteora Sunset Tour: St. Stephen Meteora Hiking Tour: Great Meteoron, Ypapanti

What if it rains?

All our bus tours run regardless of weather. Our Meteora Hiking Tour does run as well if it rains, but in case of heavy rain you will be given the option to switch to our Meteora Half-day Tour (provided there is availability), reschedule your hike to a different day, or cancel the tour and get a full refund.

What time is the pick-up time for the tours?

The pick-up time for all our tours is the same as the meeting time, indicated on your vouchers and our website. Please note that there may be a slight difference of 5-10 minutes between that time and the actual pick up time, depending on the number of pickups we have scheduled. Please be ready 10 minutes prior to your trip in order to facilitate that.

Can I bring my luggage inside your bus?

Yes you can! In case there is no room in our bus, we will drop off your luggage on our offices and you will be able to pick them up after the end of the tour.

How late can I make a booking?

You can make a booking with us literally last minute! Just keep in mind that there may be no seats left on the tour if you do that! We recommend booking at least one week in advance, in order to have the best chances of finding availability.

Which tours can I join on the same day?

We have split our tours to morning and afternoon ones. Furthermore, all our tours visit different places at Meteora. This way, you can combine any morning tour with any afternoon tour you wish! All time classic combination is the Meteora Hiking Tour in the morning and the Meteora Sunset Tour in the afternoon.
