Greek destination management company Visit Meteora received a Gold Award at the Tourism Awards 2016 held on Wednesday, April 6, at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall.

In its third year, the Tourism Awards rewarded the best practices of Greek companies and organizations in all sectors of travel, hospitality and leisure and applauded initiatives that encourage innovation and the quality of Greek tourism.

The DMC was awarded in the category “Destination Management – Promotion of natural beauty / cultural interest” for the successful and comprehensive tourism promotion plan it carried out in Meteora for the last three years.

“We started three years ago and yet we are still at the beginning. This award gives us courage and strength to continue to work hard. We are very proud that we managed to excel in this particular category”, Visit Meteora’s CEO, George Kourelis, said.

Visit Meteora is a group of travel professionals and local destination experts who have combined their talents, knowledge, resources and passion for tourism in Meteora. They focus on providing visitors with extraordinary and enriching experiences.

“It is an honor and pleasure to showcase the beauty of our country and to contribute to tourism development. I would like to thank the wonderful team of Visit Meteora and all local businesses who supported us these three years”, Mr Kourelis added.

Since its launch three years ago, Visit Meteora has hosted more than 120 travel bloggers from different countries in the region. The bloggers have created over 200 articles, podcasts and videos.

The DMC has also launched several promotional activities in cooperation with leading tourism companies on an international level such as Lonely Planet, Trivago, Turkish Airlines, Matador Network and ATTA.
